Turkey and goose biots

Do you guys tie your biot bodies on a bare hook or over a little dubbing?  I remember Joe Humphries recommened dubbing under striped peacock quills and even  under lead.

I use a bare hook, I can control the consistency of the abdomen. Of course there are tailing fibers or something for a shuck tied in under the biots anyway which adds some bulk. I prefer a thin abdomen, I think it represents the insect more accurately.

I place a layer of thread on the hook, cement it and then turn the biot with the thread. This helps guide the biot neatly to the head of the fly. There are videos online that show this technique....very much worthwhile. I've been tying for many years and still look to learn new techniques.

Thanks for the replies guys. been tying since 85 and still have q:s' . always looking at new books and the classics as well.
